Wow. Thanks for all of those suggestions, Jenny. I'd forgotten about The Book Thief. That was done so well. I think the head-hopping vs subjective POV would sometimes be hard to fathom. I think that's why it's so hard to do well. Some people might think they're doing omniscient, but they're actually head-hopping. It also made me realise how careful I have to be when editing and make sure I don't write a head-hopping comment if they're doing omniscient.
In the article I cite by Brian Davis, he gives some good examples of the differences between omniscient and head-hopping. In a couple of weeks' time I'm going to round off this series with a post on head-hopping and one on author intrusions, so hopefully I'll have it clear in my own head by then - LOL Thanks for commenting.
